Beyond the Pitch
As much as we love playing Hockey, there’s so much more to our club behind the scenes! Community is one of our key values at the club and we love to provide opportunities for everyone to have a go at hockey, as well as taking part in local events as a club. We’ve held various free hockey events as well taking part in a local Festival.
Our Events
HockeyFest
HockeyFest is about providing a fun and free opportunity to try Hockey as well as encouraging new players into the club, and a chance to meet all our current club members who can’t get enough of playing!
Our HockeyFest event includes a range of different hockey activities to suit all abilities, followed by a fun, mini tournament. From picking up a hockey stick for the first time, to dusting off the one that’s stored in the shed, everyone is welcome age 13 and above.
White Horse Summer League
When the winter season ends we continue our passion for hockey by taking part in this Summer League tournament which is hosted and organised by Abingdon Hockey Club at Tilsley Park. Summer League is a great opportunity for all members of the club to come together and form one team to maintain our fitness and continue to develop together. Thanks to all the organisers, umpires and players who gave up their time to create a fun-filled event.
Socials
We love spending time together outside of playing hockey. We hold regular socials including; start of season event/day out, baby showers, Hockey Hen parties, Christmas meal, end of season event/day out, Newbury Races, Witney ParkRun, Games Nights and just general nights out. The social side of our hockey is just as important than the competitive side so we try to ensure that all members of the club, regardless of age, are able to take part in as many socials as possible. International Hockey
Summer 2018 brought the Vitality Hockey World Cup to Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre in London. As part of the celebrations we held a World Cup Party at the Carpenter’s arms in Witney, joining together to watch England Ladies Hockey team battle it out in the group phase of the World Cup.
In the spring 2019 the FIH Pro League debuted so, of course, we took a team trip to the historic double header game vs New Zealand at Twickenham Stoop along with 11,000 other hockey fans!
Social events like this are what we thrive on and as a result many of our players had the opportunity to attend and met various players and teams. We believe that access to international and high level hockey events are key for the development of our players so we try to take team trips to as many events as possible - it's great fun watching these events together too!
Fundraising
Minster Lovell Beer Festival & Village Day
We love being a part of this fun, local, family event to raise money for our club and support the event which raises money for the Pavilion at Wash Meadow. We hold our Annual General Meeting at the Pavilion so we all really enjoyed enticing as many people to come along and raise money for a good cause.
Wychwood Lottery
The Wychwood Lottery is our main form of fundraising. The lottery relies on members getting involved in selling tickets to friends and family. We have managed to fundraise over £1000 for the club so far to help with payments towards kit, equipment, facility costs, umpire fees etc.
Tickets cost £10 for a full years subscription and draws take place on the last Monday of each month, beginning from October and ending September. The holder of the first ticket number drawn receives £15 prize money, the holder of the second ticket number drawn receives £10 prize money.
